About Les Ferdinand:
Born in Acton in 1966, Les started his career in non-league football playing for Southall and Hayes, made his debut in the football league for Queens Park Rangers in 1987, he went on to have nearly 200 appearances for the Hoops scoring 90 goals. Les moved to Newcastle United in 1995, in what was arguably his most successful spell, scoring 50 goals in just 84 appearances for the Magpies. Newcastle finished second in the league in both of his two seasons at St James Park and he was inducted into the Newcastle United Hall of Fame in 2017.
Ferdinand joined his boyhood side, Tottenham Hotspur, in 1997 and although injury hampered his time at White Hart Lane, he built a good partnership with Jurgen Klinsmann ultimately saving the club from relegation. Les won his only winners medal in English Football in 1999 as Tottenham beat Leicester 1-0 to lift the League Cup. Les wrote his name into the history books scoring the 10,000th Premier League Goal on 15 December 2001 against Fulham.
Les Ferdinand made his international debut in February 1993 verses San Marino finding the back of the net in a 6-0 thrashing! He went on to pick up 17 caps, scoring 5 goals and was part of the squad for both Euro '96 and the World Cup in 1998.
After leaving Spurs, Les went on to have spells with West Ham United, Leicester City, Bolton Wanderers, Reading and Watford before retiring just before his 40th Birthday. He re-joined Spurs as part of the coaching staff before returning to QPR, firstly as Head of Football Operations and then Director of Football where he remained at the helm for 8 years.
